LET’S TALK; COOKIES VS. THE DARK WEB
One of the issues of the digital age is privacy — people are not asked what they want, instead, they are told what they want. Here is your social media, go share and have fun while we store all data and use it to target you and whenever we are hacked or something, we are sorry, won’t happen again which is a very common scenario.
Another major issue is that social media and the internet create a stronger space to propagate ideologies and as they know your history, they keep showing you results that strengthen your views on things rather than show you something you wouldn’t usually read (the other side).
MANUFACTURING CONSENT
Manipulating public opinion and creating a common enemy are parts of manufacturing consent in propaganda models. Our constant interaction with our phones and other technology devices make us a weaker target for propaganda and the news that is created to propagate one’s views on one side while making the other side sound like the enemy.
DARK WEB VS. COOKIES
One very weird thing for me is the fight against the what-so-called “dark web” and welcoming of “cookies“. The dark web got movies attributed to it and in all, people die after being tracked by some totally “next level hackers” which is very odd because the propaganda is that it is almost impossible to track someone while they use the dark web, but the purpose is to scare people away and create a common enemy.
While on the other side, cookies on websites are okay, because with cookies, you are very known anywhere you go and can be studied constantly and your data is not your own anymore. The weird thing is the naming — language is very powerful. The dark web seems scary while cookies are just pleasant — who wouldn’t want a cookie? Cookies agreement you ask? sure, I agree, don’t even ask my dear web browser.
DEEP WEB RISKS?
The could-be problems of anonymity on the internet are understandable and I am not trying to say it is okay, but it is NOT as bad as it seems to be. Also, no one has ever conducted illegal business on Google or other “bright” web browsers? Surely a lot of those were done, sometimes by the company providing the service violating your rights to privacy…
LEGIT WEB ISSUES ARE THE SAME?
How many millions were scammed of people on legit browsers? Why no solution to stop them were found? The argument of keeping people safe if they don’t use the deep web is not sufficient enough because the legit “bright” web is not safe. People can do a lot of harm as well in a lot of websites.
The same way people can report phishing websites on Chrome or any other browser, people can report websites for wrongdoing on the deep web, so how are the two different? Why one is associated with crime and the other associated with nothing? Cookies maybe help soften the tone…
